Retrospective Study of Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage in 69 Patients

Abstract
In order to verify the therapeutic effect of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) in the relief of obstructive janudice, we conducted an comparative study.
Historical control group was composed of 87 patients who underwent bile duct exploration with T-tube choledochostomy due to various causes of obstruction during the period of 7 years from January 1980 to December 1986. From January 1986 through
December
1989, sixty nine patients underwent PTBD to relieve obstruction as a therapeutic or palliative procedure. All data which we obtained after the procedures were expressed as the percent of initial serum value. The data was analyzed using liner
reggression, test for parallelism and t-test of the Pharmacological calculations with computer programs.
Ther was statistically no significant difference of age, sex and degree of obstruction between the PTBD group and the historical control group. Also there was no difference in lowering effect of serum value of bilirubin and alkaline
phospatase(ALP)
during given period between two groups.
In conclusion, PTBD procedure was as effective enough as operative method in the biliary drainage and a good surgical adjuvant to reduce operative morbidity and mortality.
